The fame of Canelli does not come only from wine. Between the first and the second half of twentieth century, some activities linked with the production of natural corks were established in Canelli. Thanks above all to the community of immigrants from Sardinia arrived in Canelli just from the growing area of cork oaks, some workshops and small companies were established and specialized in the manufacturing of corks for still wine and “champagne” corks for sparkling wines. In spite of its changing fortunes and the keen competition, this branch is still an important part of the town economy.

At the beginning of the second half of the twentieth century, works for the design and the construction of machinery and equipments for the wine and food industry were established on the spur of the successful enological industry. After over fifty years those handicraft works have become big companies leading in all markets of the world ad have created a technological pole including about fifty companies with hundreds workers and a total turnover of about 300 million euros.
